Progressive Web Apps & SEO

Nov 16, 2018

Over the past few years, I have stressed the importance of speed, UX & technical aspects and how it impacts SEO. PWA is something I am now stressing, some of the reasons are due to the upcoming 5G ecosphere, improved loading options and more discerning web users.

What is a Progressive Web App?

Progressive Web Apps are user experiences that have the reach of the web.1 Different than an app you must download from a branded store such as Apple or Google stores. These PWA’s work through a website experience, eliminating the need for users to download something in order to keep experiencing your content. This less friction native web app experience will improve engagement, return user rates, and time on site or time on content.

Why it matters for SEO?

SERPs are favored to sites with higher engagement, quality content, and authoritative backing and PWA further improves this. I foresee PWA integrated sites increasing their SERPs and gaining a foothold above the competition. This is due the difficulties of of developing a progressive app for your website. The browsers native support is increasing to support this application type too, further supporting the long term nature of this recommendation.

Additional Benefits:

  • Faster
  • Reliable
  • Engaging

This is something that is now supported for desktop, not just phones which is why this barrier is falling and will become an important indicator to your SEO strength. The easter egg or current benefit is that Chrome and other browsers will entice users to engage with the PWA garnering customer following & loyalty for first to market companies. I hope this quick summary helps, if your enterprise seo plan needs a boost, give us a call here at Got.Media – we offer hourly consulting, on-site staff training, or monthly plans.
